Volunteer with Minds Matter Houston
Join the Motivation Powerhouse
Transform Lives, Including Your Own At Minds Matter Houston, we believe a student’s zip code should not determine their destination. We bridge the opportunity gap by connecting driven, high-potential students from low-income communities with the resources and mentorship they need to thrive in college and beyond.
More Than a Coach—A Champion for Potential Minds Matter could not exist without the hard work and commitment of our 100% volunteer-led team. As a volunteer, you are more than an instructor or a coach; you are a champion for a student's potential. Whether you are a professional or a retiree, your passion helps students navigate the complexities of college research, fly-in programs, and competitive applications.
Why Volunteer with Us?
A Tangible Legacy: Experience the profound satisfaction of seeing "your" student receive their college acceptance letters and realize their dreams. You’ll enjoy the tangible success of seeing your mentee bridge the gap from high school to a top-tier university.
A Structured Community: You aren’t on an island. You will work within a supportive Programming Team alongside a cohort of fellow volunteers and dedicated leadership.
Professional Networking: Connect with a diverse, high-achieving network of like-minded professionals across Houston’s corporate, medical, and civic sectors.
Skill Development: Beyond serving others, you will hone your own coaching, active listening, and leadership skills through our comprehensive training and ongoing workshops.
Lasting Impact: Our community is built on mutual generosity and respect. It is common for these mentorships to blossom into lasting relationships that continue through a student's college years and into their professional life.
Ready to build a roadmap for success? We seek leaders who are as committed to our students' success as they are to their own. Join our mission-driven community and help us transform lives, one student at a time.
Volunteer Roles
-
Saturday Program Mentors
Our Saturday Mentors work directly with our students and commit to attending 80% of our 26 Saturday sessions from August to May.
Building strong relationships with a student is vital for their success, at the very minimum, we require one full year of commitment from the beginning of August through the end of May. We prefer three years, but understand that sometimes you can't see that far out in your future.
