Become a Volunteer
Join a community of professionals who dedicate themselves to making a profound difference in our students’ lives.
This is your opportunity to offer deep service, grow your skills, and build lifelong friendships.
Minds Matter could not exist without the hard work and commitment of our volunteers. The Houston chapter is 100% volunteer-run by dedicated professionals and retirees with a passion for serving Houston-area students. Our dedicated volunteer mentors grow from their experiences with students, enjoy the tangible satisfaction of seeing their students succeed, and gain a valuable resume asset and a network of like-minded professionals.
Minds Matter offers a community for both volunteers and students through lasting and impactful relationships, built on the foundation of personal interactions. It is not uncommon for mentor/mentee relationships between volunteers and their students to continue beyond the three-year program and into the students’ college and post-collegiate experiences. Our volunteers are a motivational powerhouse, always available to provide a listening ear and an encouraging word to the students they mentor.
Volunteer Roles
-
Saturday & Academic Volunteers
Our Saturday volunteers work directly with our students and commit to attending 15 out of 20 Saturday sessions from October to May. These types of roles include:
Mentors
Pod Leads
Instructional Leads
Building strong relationships with a student is vital for their success, at the very minimum, we require one full year of commitment from the beginning of August through the end of May. We prefer three years, but understand that sometimes you can't see that far out in your future.
-
Leadership & Support Volunteers
Our leadership and support volunteers help us make our programs possible by supporting one (or more!) of the following teams:
Programming
Student Engagement
Summer Programs
Development
Volunteer Recruitment & Training
Student Recruitment
Operations (Finance, Marketing)
Volunteers meet virtually or in-person on a weekly or bi-weekly basis depending on team needs.
